CONVECTIVE WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO
ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA
AT 5:02 AM EDT FRIDAY 15 JUNE 2007
THIS FORECAST IS ISSUED AT 4 AM AND 4.30 PM DAILY BETWEEN MAY 1
AND SEPTEMBER 30.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH WARNING OR SPECIAL WEATHER
STATEMENT.
DISCUSSION OF THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL.
TODAY..SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH DAMAGING
WINDS AND HAIL OVER NORTHWESTERN INTO FAR NORTHERN ONTARIO AS
A STRONGER DISTURBANCE WITH A COLD FRONT MOVES IN FROM THE WEST THIS
MORNING. ISOLATED NON-SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE OVER
THE UPPER OTTAWA VALLEY TOWARDS NORTH BAY DURING THE AFTERNOON.
TONIGHT..ISOLATED NON SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS NORTH AND WEST OF LAKE
SUPERIOR ALONG A COLD FRONT MOVING EASTWARD. HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND
GUSTY WINDS ARE THE MAIN THREAT WITH THESE STORMS. ISOLATED NON
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS EVENING OVER FAR NORTHERN ONTARIO
ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW PRESSURE AREA MOVING OVER HUDSON BAY OVERNIGHT.
SATURDAY..ISOLATED NON SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED OVER
CENTRAL ONTARIO MIDDAY AND OVER EASTERN ONTARIO IN THE AFTERNOON AS
A COLD FRONT MOVES EASTWARD. SOME OF THESE STORMS MAY APPROACH
SEVERE LIMITS DUE TO HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND DAMAGING HAIL.
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IS DEFINED AS HAVING ONE OR MORE OF THE
FOLLOWING
- WIND GUSTS OF 90 KM/H OR GREATER.
- HAIL OF 2 CENTIMETRES DIAMETER OR GREATER.
- RAINFALL RATE GREATER THAN 50 MILLIMETRES IN 1 HOUR OR
LESS OR 75 MILLIMETRES IN 3 HOURS OR LESS.
- TORNADOES
